Samuel Nnorom: Eye of the earth

Primo Marella Gallery is pleased to share Samuel Nnorom's exhibition at the Textile Museum of Canada, titled "Eye of the Earth".
 
The exhibition delves into the complex narratives of colonization, forced migration, displacement, overconsumption, production and identity. It also invites the visitors to reflect about the urgency of a more sustainable and kind future.
 
Samuel Nnorom perfectioned his signature tecnique for creating large scale soft sculptures by using a mix of Ankara (African wax print fabric) scraps, Okrika (secondhand clothes), discarded foam and fibres. 

For Nnorom, fabrics symbolize social structure and the interconnectedness of humanity within society. His work, featuring bubble forms, bindles, and netting, explores themes like socio-political systems, consumerism, industrialization, and the lasting impacts of colonialism.

 

"Eye of the Earth" will present Nnorom’s art alongside items from the Museum’s collection, creating a rich, multi-faceted dialogue on the enduring effects of extraction and consumption.
