Primo marella interviewed on african art market

article by il sole 24 ore

Primo Marella was interviewed by Gabriella Grasso of "Il Sole 24 Ore" about the African art market. The article also included Abdoulaye Konaté's work "Bleu, rouge, orangé et blanc".

The article states:

Among the galleries to know and visit regularly, if interested in the African contemporary art market, in London the Goodman Gallery and the October Gallery; in Paris the 193 Gallery and Magnin-A. And then there is Italy. In our country, Primo Marella was a pioneer: "It was 2010 when I organised Africa, Assume Art Position!, the first European exhibition dedicated to African artists. At the time it was difficult to imagine that the sector would then arouse so much interest, but to me it immediately seemed like a new, fertile world full of potential", he recalls. We ask him whom he recommends focusing on today. "Among the mid-age artists I follow, in addition to Abdoulaye Konaté, I would like to point out Joël Andrianomearisoa from Madagascar: one of his works was recently shown in the exhibition Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. The works range from EUR 10,000 to 60,000. Among the up-and-comers, I would say to keep an eye on Tegene Kunbi, Ethiopian winner of the 2022 Dakar Biennial. His works - between EUR 3,500 and 25,000 - are constantly sold out and attract great interest".
