The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York Acquisition

Joël Andrianomearisoa
Primo Marella Gallery is delighted that three works from Joël Andrianomearisoa's series 'LES HERBES FOLLES DU VIEUX LOGIS' are now part of the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, US. The textile work, ‘LES HERBES FOLLES DU VIEUX LOGIS’, 2022 will be exhibited at the end of May 2025 in The Met’s galleries dedicated to the arts of Africa in the newly renovated Michael C. Rockefeller Wing.
The body of works titled Les Herbes Folles du Vieux Logis was presented at Primo Marella Gallery Milano on the occasion of the homonymous exhibition by Joël Andrianomearisoa in March 2022.
"The canvases of Herbes Folles were superb variations in which the artist inscribed a whole semantics, nourished by almost geometric shapes evoking skyscrapers and infused with the darkness of the night. In height, the colors, worked in vertical bands, follow an almost serial practice. Golds, beiges, browns, and greens have bright yet delicate tones and play with transparency effects, amplified by the nature of the material. The artist intervened in each color, thus developing a range of softened nuances—a mixture of earthiness and more sensual substance. The textile magnificently adapts to its variations in relief, forming incisions and colors where a reflection of the material is revealed, and a soul emerges." - Françoise Docquiert
