Liu Ding’s Thinking: Between Small Gardens and Small Marketplaces
This exhibition is a platform and context for Liu Ding to offer his own thinking as an artist to be the subject for presentation, examination and discussion, rather than just his artworks.
This exhibition is an extensive grouping of his latest works from the last few years. For this show, the artist has singled out a number of key works, which are representative of the diversity of artistic directions he’s pursuing in his thinking. The selection and combination of works in this context were based on their visual but more importantly conceptual relations among one another, rather than highlighting any one single piece of work. These works are interwoven, mixed and paralleling to each other to give form to a rich and dynamic scenario.
The title of this exhibition makes references to the two specific notions of “small garden” and “small marketplace”. He intends to evoke the atmosphere and philosophical connotations of these two public spaces, instead of arranging his works in the exhibition based on the physical orders of these two kinds of spaces.
